Guests took part in annual parade
Douzelage teams celebrate st Patrick’s Day
Two guests from the Douzelage partner town in the UK (Sherborne, Dorset) joined the Bundoran Douzelage team for the annual St Patrick’s Day celebrations in our Irish partner town on March 17th!
The parade is the showpiece for Bundoran on Ireland’s national holiday attracting thousands of visitors to the seaside town to line the streets to watch floats, marching bands, community groups and many tractors take to the parade route to celebrate Ireland’s patron saint.
Douzelage guests attending and participating in the parade has become somewhat of a tradition over the past number of years with many delegates from partner towns across the union descending upon Bundoran to experience the famous Irish welcome and the most Irish of days!

Lin Ashby (Chair of Sherborne Douzelage) along with Moira Western made the journey this year and joined Douzelage President Shane Smyth, Douzelage treasurer Joe Mc Nulty, Douzelage secretary Hannah Mc Nulty and Douzelage Youth member James Gilmartin to represent our organisation in Bundoran for the parade with Lin holding the Douzelage banner and Moira proudly waved the Dorset flag.
President of Douzelage Shane Smyth said ‘there was such a great atmosphere on the street on St Patrick’s Day and we were glad that Moira and Lin were able to join us to represent Douzelage in the parade. We’ve welcomed many Douzelage friends over the past number of years and we were happy to be able to carry on the tradition this year.’
The team also enjoyed some down time at local restaurants and went on a tour of the local region during their stay.
