Meeting took place in Sušice & Bad Kötzting

Douzelage youth have first meeting

On the 21st of May, the Youth Board reunited once again to discuss the activities that will take place in Malta at the beginning of September.

On the first day, we visited the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, and did a bit of sightseeing. By the end of the day, we arrived in Sušice and checked into the hotel. The following day, we gathered at Jiří’s house to discuss our objectives and plans for the meeting in Malta, among other things.

That same afternoon, after enjoying a great lunch prepared by Eva (Jiří’s sister), we went on to explore Sušice. We hiked up a mountain that offered amazing views of the whole town, and we also visited Santos Island, a beautiful park located near the centre of Sušice. By the time we arrived at the island, Eva (Jiří’s mother) was waiting there to spend time with us.

Later that night, we had dinner with the Sušice Douzelage delegation and the mayor of Sušice. We enjoyed a lovely meal together before returning to the hotel for a Zoom call with Malta. Joy and Camille kindly explained the plans they had prepared so far and their ideas for hosting the event in September. After the call ended, we went out to enjoy Sušice’s town festival, where there were food trucks, a fair, and live Czech music. Overall, we really enjoyed the lively atmosphere and positive vibes of the town.

The next day, we left early in the morning to visit Bayerisch Eisenstein, a beautiful lake located between Sušice and Bad Kötzting. From there, we went on a small two-hour road trip, during which we enjoyed both the great weather and the stunning views. At around two o’clock, we arrived in Bad Kötzting. Besides admiring how beautiful the town was, we also had the chance to meet Corinna and Ali again, whom we had not seen since October. They were very kind and introduced us to some of their friends and even members of their family.

In addition, they thoughtfully explained the parade that was taking place at the time and showed us around the town. Afterwards, we moved to the festival tent, where we met the mayor of Bad Kötzting and received a very warm welcome. We also enjoyed a lovely lunch surrounded by German traditions.

Eventually, we had to leave for dinner elsewhere, but witnessing how cheerful and welcoming the people were was enough to make us happy as well. That night, we had dinner and visited Angels Chapel, which was a truly stunning church. We enjoyed our last evening together by talking and getting to know each other better.

To conclude, the whole Youth Board had a wonderful time during those two days. We all felt very welcomed in Sušice and Bad Kötzting. These two towns were the perfect setting for our first meeting, as they provided us with everything we could have wished for: an amazing experience and incredibly friendly people.
