BUNDORAN BAND “WHAT THE FOLK” ATTEND
SHERBORNE CELEBRATES SUMMER OF MUSIC
We were delighted to welcome to Sherborne ‘What the Folk’, an Irish Folk Band from Bundoran, to play in various venues, and take part in the Sherborne Summer Festival in the bandstand in Pageant Gardens, over a musically packed weekend from 13th to 15th June.
On Friday evening the people of Sherborne were treated to a feast of Irish music in Cafe D’urberville, a French style cafe, where diners enjoyed many reels, jigs and songs from the group, as well as some Irish dancing from Ciaron.
On Saturday the Summer Festival began in Pageant Gardens, with the crowd anticipating a music filled day in the sunshine. The band did not disappoint! A great performance was much appreciated by all those watching – many of whom came to see the band again over the weekend.

Saturday evening saw a performance at The George pub, the oldest one in Sherborne, where, again, a storming performance was provided, and some local musicians joined in to make it a night to remember.
On Sunday morning Brian, Aileen and Ciaron provided an Irish Folk workshop for our local Folk group members, complete with an authentic Irish dance from Ciaron. The session ended with an impromptu group dance which led to much laughter, as we struggled to remember instructions – and our left from our right! The Sherborne Folk group were very appreciative of the workshop and are now looking to visit Bundoran to learn more.

A final performance in the bandstand in the afternoon was fantastic, with many of the audience dancing around the park to the music – a good time was definitely had by all!
We are eternally grateful to the band for their professionalism, musicality and good humour throughout the weekend – we hope they will return as promised!
