The third General Meeting is held in the partner town of Bellagio, Italy on Lake Como.
The 2nd Douzelage General Meeting takes place in our dutch partner town of Meerssen.
Karel Majoor from Meerssen, Netherland is elected first Douzelage President.
The first GM of Douzelage takes place in Granville where the codicil is signed by the first 12 member towns of the organisation. The original 12 were Altea, Spain; Bad Kötzting, Germany; Bellagio, Italy; Bundoran, Ireland; Granville, France; Holstebro, Denmark; Houffalize, Belgium; Meerssen, Netherlands; Niederanven, Luxembourg; Preveza, Greece; Sesimbra, Portugal & Sherborne, England.
The idea for the formation of a unique town twinning organisation was first mooted between existing partner towns of Sherborne (UK) and Granville (France).
